The median-child problem, examined honestly.
Every public school curriculum is calibrated to a statistical center. The lessons move at the median pace, the tests measure median retention, and the classroom manages for median behavior. The system is not cruel to design it this way. It is math. A teacher with thirty students and one planning period cannot simultaneously accelerate, remediate, and hold the middle. So the middle wins, every time.
The Eagle has yet to meet that child. Not the median reader, not the median math student, not the median anything. Real students are uneven. A ten-year-old who devours chapter books may still struggle with long division. A ninth grader two years ahead in biology may be exactly on grade level in writing. Public school sees both and files them under the same cohort heading, ships the same curriculum, and marks them both present.
The pace ceiling is the part that gets less attention than the pace floor. Parents worry, reasonably, about children falling behind. But students who are already ahead also pay a cost. They wait. They re-learn things they learned eighteen months ago. They learn, accurately, that school is a place where effort is not the variable that moves things forward. That lesson sticks longer than most of the curriculum does.
A self-paced program does not fix every problem a student has. It does remove the one structural problem no individual teacher can fix: the lock-step. When the pace belongs to the student, the median stops being the ceiling and the floor.

Most arguments against home school dissolve under mild scrutiny. Most arguments for traditional school also dissolve, just more slowly. What remains is a real question about fit. The Eagle is here to describe the fit problem, not solve it for you.

A student working ahead in math can finish a course, request the next one, and keep going. The grade level on the enrollment form does not put a ceiling on the coursework.
What do I actually have to do every day as the parent?
Less than most parents expect, and more than none at all. The teachers deliver instruction, grade work, and hold office hours. The parent’s legal role is supervisor of record, which in practice means maintaining an annual portfolio and staying aware of progress. Most parents describe it as managing a schedule rather than teaching a curriculum.
Our schedule is irregular, performances, competitions, shifts that rotate. Can the program actually bend that far?
Coursework is asynchronous, meaning there is no live class a student must log into at a fixed hour. A performer with a Tuesday callback or an athlete at a tournament logs in when the day allows. The program tracks demonstrated mastery, not attendance by period.
