Palm Beach County Was Supposed to Be Different. Now Families Are Asking the Same Questions.
|
For years, Palm Beach County looked different from its neighbors. While Miami-Dade and Broward were consolidating schools and cutting staff, Palm Beach County was building. New campuses opened in western Lake Worth, West Boynton Beach, and Loxahatchee. The district was trending up. Then the 2025-26 school year arrived. In a single year, the School District of Palm Beach County lost nearly 7,900 students across district and charter schools combined. 67 schools — nearly one-third of the district — fell below 70% capacity. A hiring freeze went into effect. More than 120 teachers were reassigned.
