How to withdraw, step by step
Decide your route first
The front office will ask where your child is going, and the answer decides which forms you sign. Deciding afterwards is how families file a notice they never owed.
Put the withdrawal in writing
Email the principal and the registrar with the effective date, and request the records in the same message. Keep a copy. Verbal notice at the front desk is why a withdrawal turns into an attendance problem weeks later.
Request the full record
The cumulative folder, not the report card: transcript, credits earned, test history, current course enrollments. For a high school student this is the most valuable document you will collect.
Return school property
Devices, textbooks, instruments, athletic gear. An unreturned laptop is the usual reason a transcript request sits unfulfilled.
Enroll, then file only what your route requires
Home education means the notice within 30 days. A Florida private school means you enroll and keep your acceptance documentation.

After the withdrawal posts, the same request becomes a records request for a former student and, in many Florida districts, joins a slower queue. Elementary and middle school
For younger students the practical question is usually pacing rather than credits.
