Why Ohio Families Are Looking for Something Different

Ohio has 1.48 million students spread across 611 school districts and 88 counties. Some of those districts are excellent. Many are not.

35.5% of Ohio 3rd graders did not score proficient on the state reading test last year. The state had to step in and require 46 districts and 104 community schools to file Reading Achievement Improvement Plans because more than half their 3rd graders could not read at grade level. If your child is in one of those districts, you already know something is off.

In middle school, the problems shift. 26% of Ohio 6th through 8th graders reported being bullied. That is nearly double the high school rate. 37% of Ohio middle schools reported cyberbullying at least once a week. Social media made it constant. There is no break. This is the number one reason parents of middle schoolers start looking for alternatives.

In high school, the issues are class size, teacher quality, and flexibility. Columbus City Schools serve over 47,000 students. Cleveland Metro serves 36,000. Cincinnati Public serves 34,000. Teacher starting pay in Ohio sits at $40,982, almost $5,500 below the national average. Some districts are filling spots with uncertified staff because they cannot find qualified people willing to work for those numbers.

Then there are the families where the school itself is fine but the situation is not. The military family at Wright-Patterson getting PCS orders. The 3rd grader in Westerville who already finished the 4th grade math book. The 7th grader in Canton who stopped going because the anxiety got too loud. The family in Appalachian Ohio where the bus ride takes an hour and the course catalog has gaps.

53,000 Ohio students are now homeschooled. 15% increase over last year. Record numbers. Triple the pre-pandemic growth rate. This is where Ohio education is heading.

What Your Child Studies in Our Ohio K-12 Program

This is not a high school with a kindergarten tacked on. Every grade level has its own curriculum built for that age.

Elementary (K-5)

Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies from the start. K-grade entry builds reading readiness and early number sense. By 2nd grade, your child reads independently and works through addition and subtraction. By 4th grade, math covers multiplication, fractions, and decimals. Writing gets structured. Science moves from observation to investigation. 5th grade adds Digital Literacy and Drama.

Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee tests every public school 3rd grader for reading proficiency. Last year, 35.5% did not pass. Our program lets your child build reading skills at the pace they need. Nobody moves on until they are ready.

Middle School (6-8)

The subjects get serious. MJ Language Arts builds structured writing and literary analysis. MJ Mathematics runs from 6th grade math through Pre-Algebra. MJ Comprehensive Science covers physical, life, and earth science across three years. MJ Civics, US History, and World History round out social studies.

This is the age range where 26% of Ohio students in grades 6-8 report being bullied and 37% of middle schools see cyberbullying every week. If your child is dealing with that, they can keep learning without being in that building.

High School (9-12)

Four years of English, math from Algebra 1 through Pre-Calculus, three sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), four social studies courses, plus electives.
