Redlands Online Homeschool
Accredited kindergarten through twelfth grade, taught by certified teachers, on one transcript held by the school. In a town that has been keeping records since 1898.
The argument
Who holds the transcript in 2032
An accredited online school teaching kindergarten through twelfth grade, inside the online home school program: certified teachers own the courses, and the institution issues the transcript. Redlands online homeschool families are usually choosing between that and two other things that look similar from outside and behave very differently from inside.
Why Redlands households ask this early
The difference does not show up in year one. It shows up in year four, when somebody asks for the paperwork.
Side by side
Three things people call homeschooling
All three are lawful. They differ in one respect that only matters later, which is why it is worth being deliberate now.
An accredited online homeschool Redlands families enroll in sits in the third column. The basics of online homeschool covers the first two honestly, including when they are the better answer.
The place
A Redlands habit of keeping the record
Redlands was incorporated on 3 December 1888 and covers 36 square miles at 1,358 feet, holding 73,168 people at the 2020 census.
It opened a public library in 1898 and founded a university in 1907, both before it had finished being a farm town.
What came before that
What Redlands did before the library
For almost seventy-five years this was the center of the largest navel-orange region in the world. In the 1937-38 season the city shipped more than 4,200 railcars of navels and 1,300 of Valencias, and an industry like that runs entirely on grading, packing and shipping records.
By 2000 the largest employer in town was a company founded here in 1969 whose whole product is putting information on a map and keeping it there. Read the city’s own history and the throughline is hard to miss.

The law
Who files the private school affidavit
It is, and California is unusual in how little it asks of a district. Nothing is filed locally at all.
| Filing | An annual Private School Affidavit, filed with the California Department of Education, not with a school district. Education Code § 33190 requires it of anyone offering private school instruction at elementary or high school level. |
|---|---|
| When | The statutory window is October 1 to 15 each year. The online filing system is separately open August 1 through June 30 for schools established outside that window. |
| Your district | Parents are not required to report to their school district. Districts verify independently that the affidavit was filed, which is what confirms the exemption from compulsory attendance under Education Code § 48222. |
| Other routes | California also recognizes enrolling in a private school satellite program, a public school independent study program, a charter school, or instruction by a credentialed tutor. |
| Statute | Education Code §§ 33190 and 48222. The California Department of Education publishes the current requirements on its home schooling page. |

Nothing at all
Not yours to file
Which of the two routes you are on
How to start homeschooling in Redlands depends entirely on this, because only one of them involves that filing.
If the filing is yours
Then so is the archive. Every grade, every course description and every year of evidence sits in your house for as long as anyone might ask, which in practice is until the student is about twenty-two.
If the filing is not yours
Then neither is the archive. The school keeps it, produces it on request, and is still there to answer the phone after the student has left.
If you are teaching at home yourself in Redlands: California does not ask you to notify your school district. The common route is to operate as a small private school and file the annual Private School Affidavit with the state between October 1 and 15. The online system is open more widely, from August 1 to June 30, for programs started outside that window.
If your child enrolls in a school instead: that is a different route and the affidavit is not yours to file. The school carries the record. Ask a counselor which of the two you are actually choosing before you file anything.
Grades
Thirteen grades, entered in one ledger
Online homeschool programs in Redlands are taught here rather than hosted, with a certified teacher who owns the section and answers the student directly.
Thirteen entries in one ledger
The record opens before anything is graded for credit. Elementary school posts six of the thirteen entries, and the ones families ask about most are first grade, second grade, third grade and fourth grade, where reading level and grade level start to part company.
The three Redlands families underestimate
Three more entries come from middle school online, and seventh grade in particular quietly decides how the next four go, because a gap left open there is a gap carried forward.
The four a Redlands college will read
The last four entries carry the weight, and tenth grade and eleventh grade are the two an admissions office lingers on. They close in a diploma issued by the accredited school that taught them, not in an equivalency certificate.
A student is placed on what the transcript shows. Those two disagree more often than families expect, and the difference is much cheaper to find before a course is assigned than after.
A household confident everywhere except one subject should ask about individual courses instead of a full year. The full catalog is at high school courses, and what an application involves is set out under admissions.
Households
What a homeschool parent is actually enrolling in
What the Redlands parent actually does
Online homeschool for working parents Redlands households run is the most common version of this call, and the worry is always the same one: that a parent is about to become a teacher on top of a job.
A certified teacher owns each course, sets the pace and grades the work. What the household supplies is a room, a routine and someone who notices when a week has gone sideways. Those are three different jobs from teaching and only the third one has to be a parent.
The hours are the household’s to place, which is the part people underestimate. A student who works best between four and nine in the evening is not fighting the arrangement; they are using it.
Starting
Arriving in February with credits already banked
Switching to online homeschool mid year is the single most common way a family arrives here, and it is not the disruption it sounds like. Rolling enrollment is not a promotion. It falls out of not being zoned to anything, which makes October and February ordinary starting points rather than exceptions.
How a family actually begins
The call
The transcript
The start
Three steps, and the first one is the one that prevents the expensive mistake.
Work banked at a previous school is read before anything is assigned, and transferring credits sets out what carries. Leaving a district is its own paperwork and it differs by state; how to withdraw your child from an Ohio public school shows the shape of it, though the form here is different.
Ask what a student has already banked before asking when they can finish. Almost every family that arrives braced for a repeated year turns out not to be facing one, and the transcript is where that gets settled.
Afterwards
What a college admissions office reads
An accredited transcript is read as an accredited transcript, from any address. That is the entire point of accreditation, and it is worth knowing what is actually on the page they read:
- The courses taken, by title, year by year.
- The grade earned in each, and the credit value attached to it.
- A cumulative grade point average the school stands behind.
- The name of the accredited institution that issued it, and a way to verify that.
A curriculum you bought produces none of those four. A co-op usually produces the first two and nothing that can be verified. Whether any of this is measured well nationally is its own question, and which students are actually catching up is a sobering answer to it.
The valley has its own options, from the university on the hill to the campuses out past the high desert, and none of them ask which building a student sat in.
What admissions officers do with a homeschool file is its own subject, and the homeschool college admissions edge public schools miss is the honest version of it. For an adult finishing later, what nobody tracks about adult diplomas is worth reading before choosing a program.
Cost
Redlands online homeschool tuition, in one number
How a Redlands figure gets quoted
Online homeschool cost in Redlands turns on two things: which grade the student is entering and which program track they are on. Monthly plans exist alongside paying in full.
Whether there is tuition at all is answered plainly at is there tuition at this school. What we will not do is quote a headline figure here and let you discover the rest of it later. The tuition page sets out the structure, the payment options set out the terms, and a counselor gives you the whole number on a call that costs nothing.
The question worth asking first. Not what it costs, but what the student has already earned. Send whatever the last school issued, even a photograph of it, to (888) 242-4262, and a counselor reads it back to you as two numbers: credits banked, credits left.
Everything else, including the figure, is easier to think about once those two are on the table. Send the details here if that is simpler than a call.
The best online homeschool in Redlands, for a household weighing this, is simply the one that will still be able to verify the record in 2032. That is a question about the institution, not about the coursework, and it is worth asking out loud before enrolling anywhere.
Who issues the transcript, who signs it, and who answers the phone when a university calls to verify it in six years. A school of record has one answer to all three questions. Anything that has three different answers, or none, is not a school of record.

Questions Redlands families ask
What does it cost?
Tuition depends on grade level and program track, and both monthly plans and pay-in-full options exist. Start at the tuition page; a counselor gives you the actual figure on the first call, which carries no charge.
Do I still file with the state if my child enrolls with you?
No. The Private School Affidavit belongs to California’s home-based private school route under Education Code § 33190. Enrolling in a school is the other route, and the school holds the record instead. If you have already filed for this year, say so on the first call and a counselor will tell you what, if anything, is left to do.
What happens to my child’s IEP or 504 plan?
An IEP or 504 plan belongs to the district that wrote it and does not travel off that district’s roll. What does travel is the federal right under IDEA to request a no-cost evaluation from your local district, enrolled there or not. Put that request in writing to the district serving Redlands. Tell a counselor what the plan provided before you enroll.
How many credits does my student already have, and how many are left?
The one question a general answer cannot settle. Send whatever the last school filed, even a photograph, and a counselor gives you both numbers before any assignment is set.
Will a diploma from an online school be taken seriously?
It is issued by an accredited school on that school’s own requirements, and admissions offices and employers treat it as one. It is not a GED.
Can my student transfer back to public school later?
Credits earned here travel on an accredited transcript, read like any transferring student’s record. Acceptance is always the receiving district’s call, so email the district you might return to and ask in writing how they treat credits from an accredited private school. Redlands families should check which district their address falls in first.
Can we start partway through the year?
Yes. Enrollment is rolling and not tied to any district calendar, so a student begins on a real week. Mid-year starts are ordinary here.
Which school district is Redlands in?
Redlands Unified School District, which also reaches into Mentone, Loma Linda and part of Highland. Being inside that boundary is a fact about your address, not an obligation. An online school admits by application rather than by attendance area, so the usual question of which campus a street feeds into simply does not arise.
Is an online homeschool transcript taken seriously by colleges?
An accredited school’s transcript is read as an accredited school’s transcript. That is what accreditation is for. What matters is that a recognized institution issued it and will verify it on request, which a curriculum you bought cannot do and a co-op generally does not.
Do we still file the Private School Affidavit if our child enrolls with you?
No. The affidavit belongs to the route where you are the private school teaching at home. If your child enrolls in an accredited school instead, that school carries the record and the filing is not yours. It is worth being certain which route you are on before October.
Can a student take one subject with you and keep the rest at home?
Yes. That is a common arrangement for a household that is confident everywhere except one subject, and it is a different enrollment from a full year. Ask a counselor for individual courses by name.
