Accredited K-12 Online Private School
Elk Grove K-12 online home school, one school for every child in the house.
Three kids, three grades, three different paces, and one already-full week. A self-paced, accredited program runs all of them under one login, each at their own level.

01 A Houseful, On One Schedule
Why a busy Elk Grove family runs the whole house on one school.
Elk Grove is one of the fastest-growing, youngest, and most diverse suburbs in California, a Sacramento-area city built for families and full of them. Many of those households are big: several children, several grade levels, and a calendar already stretched thin by practices, lessons, and two working parents. For these families, the daily strain is rarely one child’s ability. It is the logistics of three different campuses, three bell schedules, and three pickup times that never quite line up.
An accredited online K-12 program collapses that into one. All of the children attend the same school, on one platform, with one counselor and one weekly rhythm, while each child sits at their own real grade level and pace. The second grader and the ninth grader can both be home, both on track, without the family running a private shuttle service across town all afternoon.
Self-paced is what makes that possible. Mastery moves each student up on their own clock, so one child can race ahead in math while another takes an extra week on reading, and the household is not trying to force everyone onto a single timetable. The work, the standards, and the checkpoints are fixed for every grade; what flexes is when each child does it.
It is worth being plain about what self-paced does and does not mean. It does not mean children learning alone, a watered-down year, or a parent turned into a full-time teacher for three children at once. The teachers are at HSOA. An Elk Grove family does not trade rigor for convenience; they get the same accredited K-12 education for each child, arranged around the household they actually run.
02 Several Kids, One Roof
Online school for a Elk Grove household with several children.
Run the morning of a three-child, two-job household and you understand why so many Elk Grove families call. Three drop-offs at three start times, three sets of homework, three calendars of practices and recitals, and a parent doing all of it in the gaps of their own shift. The children are usually fine. The system asking the family to be in three places at once is the problem.
One online accredited school takes the logistics off the table. Every child is enrolled in the same place, on one platform, with one counselor who knows the whole household and one weekly rhythm the family can actually keep. The driving collapses, the calendar simplifies, and the day can finally be built around the family instead of around three bells.
What it does not do is flatten the children into one pace. Each child is placed by their own demonstrated skill and moves on their own clock: the strong reader races ahead, the one rebuilding in math takes the time, and a kindergartner and a high-schooler share a kitchen table without sharing a curriculum. The cumulative record holds each child’s real progress separately, all under one roof.
The flexibility scales with the family. A heavy week of travel ball or a recital season is planned around for whichever child it touches, while the others keep their pace, and a counselor reviews each student so a busy stretch never quietly becomes a gap for one of them. And if a growing family moves to a bigger house across the region, nobody re-enrolls and nobody loses a step.
None of this lowers the bar for any of them. The standard, the coursework, and the accredited record are fixed for every grade in the house. What changes is that one school, not three, finally fits the family that is actually raising these children.
03 The Curriculum, by Grade
The Elk Grove online K-12 curriculum, grade by grade.
The K-12 program is a full course of study, not a thin one. Here is the shape of it, subject by subject across the four grade bands. A student is placed by demonstrated skill, not birthday, so the grid is a map, not a cage.
| Subject | K–2 | 3–5 | 6–8 | 9–12 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| English & Language Arts | Phonics, fluency, first sentences to first paragraphs | Reading to learn, multi-paragraph writing, grammar | Literature, analytical reading, argument writing | Composition, American and world literature, honors and AP-equivalent options |
| Mathematics | Number sense, math facts, place value | Fractions, operations, early geometry | Pre-algebra to Algebra I | Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus (honors and AP-equivalent) |
| Science | Observation and inquiry | Scientific method, life and earth science | Life and physical science, shipped lab kits | Biology, Chemistry, Physics, with hands-on shipped labs |
| Social Studies | Community, maps, and geography | US and world geography and history | World history, US history, civics | US History, Government, Economics, World History |
| Electives & Enrichment | Art and music foundations | Art, music, introductory languages | World languages, computer skills, the arts | World languages, computer science, visual and performing arts |
None of this is a lighter course of study. An Elk Grove student takes the full sequence in every subject, held to the same standards a strong campus would, plus the electives and world languages that round out a real K-12 education. What changes is that the grid is read by skill rather than birthday: a student can sit in the 9–12 column for math and the 6–8 column for a world language they just picked up, with a single cumulative record holding all of it at once. The counselor maps that placement in the first week and adjusts it as the student moves.
Underneath the grid is the single mechanic that makes it work for a Elk Grove student: mastery moves the student up, not the calendar. A course is finished when the work meets the standard, and the next one is already there when it does. Honors and AP-equivalent courses sit inside the same self-paced structure, so a student ready for them simply takes them. Every grade also has its own page: kindergarten, elementary, middle school, and high school nine through twelve. The counselor walks through placement and course selection in detail.
Several children. Several grades.
One school day that works.
Every child is placed by their own skill and moves on their own clock, under one platform and one counselor. The driving collapses; the standard for each grade does not.
Wondering how it works with more than one child?

04 How the Teaching Works
How a self-paced online home school actually teaches.
Self-paced is a method, not a shortcut. Here is how each part of the K-12 day actually runs for an Elk Grove student.
05 Accommodations
Two paces, one cumulative record.
HSOA accommodates students with active IEP or 504 plans and works with families on the specific accommodations the plan calls for. The starting point for any Elk Grove family bringing an existing plan is a counselor call. The counselor reviews the plan, walks through how the accommodations land in the K-12 curriculum, and aligns the student’s pacing and supports to what the plan asks for.
Twice-exceptional learners are advanced in some subjects and need extra support in others, and in a big household the siblings often sit all over that map. The self-paced mastery model runs every pace at once: one student can be two grades ahead in math while another builds in reading, on the same day, without either pace becoming the wrong pace. What HSOA does not do is replace the clinical specialists or therapists a family already works with. The school works alongside that ecosystem; its job is the K-12 academic work, accommodated to fit each plan and each student.
Ready to bring the whole house onto one school?

From the Head’s Desk · Elk Grove
On running a household, not just a school day.
A lot of first calls I take from an Elk Grove family are really about logistics before they are about academics. A parent describing a morning with three children at three schools, a job that starts before the last drop-off, and an afternoon that is mostly a car. They love their children’s schools well enough; what is breaking them is the math of being in three places at once, every single day.
What an online school can do for that family is consolidate without compromising. One platform, one counselor, one rhythm, and every child still on their own real grade level inside it. The youngest can be sounding out words at the same table where the oldest is working through Algebra II, and the school holds both honestly, with separate records and the same standards each grade deserves.
I tell Elk Grove parents that the goal is not to turn the house into a one-room schoolhouse run by mom and dad. The teachers are ours; the instruction is our job. The family’s job becomes a manageable one: keep the rhythm, and let each child move at the pace that is actually theirs. For a busy household, that trade, less driving and less juggling for the same accredited education, is the whole point.
So bring the whole household to the counselor call. Each child, where they are, the activities that own the calendar, any IEP in the mix. We will build one workable plan for the family you actually are. It starts there.
