Brighton does not know where its name came from
Everyone here can tell the story. Daniel F. Carmichael filed the first plat in February 1881, on a spot the railroads called Hughes Station, and the name of the City of Brighton came from his wife Alice, after her home town: Brighton Beach, New York, in most tellings.
The historian Robin Kring went and checked. Census and genealogy records list Alice Evans Carmichael’s birthplace as neither one. They list Lancaster, Pennsylvania. And no document has turned up anywhere explaining why Carmichael wrote that name on the Brighton plat at all.

The story is a good one, told kindly for over a century, and the town is not less itself for it. The account and the record are simply two different objects, and only one can be checked.

What happens to my child’s IEP or 504 plan?
An IEP or 504 plan belongs to the district that wrote it and does not travel off that district’s roll. What does travel is the federal right under IDEA to request a no-cost evaluation from your local district, enrolled there or not. Put that request in writing to the district serving Brighton.
