The transfer form exists so the state can count high school enrollment accurately, not so anyone can approve or refuse your decision. It is the one piece of paper New Jersey asks for, and it applies only when the student being withdrawn is already enrolled in a high school program. Both rows come from the New Jersey Department of Education’s homeschool FAQ, question 4.
One exception applies, and only above ninth grade: a student already enrolled in a high school program completes a transfer form with the school. It lets the state count high school enrollment accurately. It is not an approval step and nobody can refuse it.

How to withdraw from a Winslow Township school
Legally you do not have to tell the school. Practically you do, in writing, because the letter is what stops an attendance record nobody closed from becoming a truancy notice. Send it to the principal of the building, keep a copy, and chase the written confirmation.

I am writing to inform you that [child’s full name], currently enrolled in [grade] at [school name], will be withdrawn from Winslow Township schools effective [date]. My child will receive equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school, as provided for under N.J.S.A. 18A:38-25.

The confirmation is the part people skip, and an open attendance record is the only part of this that ever goes wrong.

It is almost always paperwork rather than a problem. Document that the child receives equivalent instruction elsewhere than at school and reference the attendance statute. Nothing has to be proved: no curriculum shown, no work submitted, no review attended.
District school, online school, or parent-directed homeschool
In New Jersey the middle column is legally the same category as the right one. Enrolling in an accredited online school does not create a different status; it changes who teaches and who keeps the record.
Kindergarten through fifth grade
Parents second-guess the early grades hardest, and rarely because of the material. The worry is whether a five-year-old at a kitchen table is missing something a classroom would have given them.
Reading answers it, because everything else in those years orbits reading, and reading is what gains most from an adult sitting within arm’s reach. Four nights on the same page, the sounding out, and then a morning where it simply holds. Whether a teacher with twenty-four other children catches that morning is a question of luck. At a table it lands every time.

Sixth through eighth

Worth saying plainly: this is a private school and families pay for it. A district seat does not carry that cost, and for some households that settles the question before anything else does. That is a fair way to decide.

September is not a deadline here and no semester gets written off. A student who leaves a building in February is working in February, and mid-year transfer runs the same way in both directions if you decide to go back.

An IEP or 504 plan
An IEP does not travel with a child who leaves the district roll; it belongs to the school that wrote it. What New Jersey preserves is the evaluation right. A district receiving a written request for a special education evaluation must review it with the child study team, and the state says plainly this applies to children educated at home.

Not to the coursework. Winslow is the largest municipality in Camden County and most of it is pine, so families here are used to driving. Online school removes the drive from the school day, which is the only part of it we can affect.
